Known Benefits of Shiatsu

In 2006 a large scale Systematic Review was carried out by the Shiatsu Society UK in association with Thames Valley University.

The findings of the review suggested that individuals treated with Shiatsu reported benefit when questioned about symptom control and improvement. The report concluded that there may be a positive future for the inclusion of Shiatsu within a medical treatment model.

Andrew Long of The University of Leeds School of Healthcare (Faculty of Medicine and Health) published a document in 2007. When clients were questioned regarding their Shiatsu practioners, most reported they had felt cared for and listened to. The practitioners were also perceived to be trustworthy, skilful and warm. Clients also reported feeling relaxed, calm and better able to cope. A statistically significant improvement in symptoms was reported across a large number of participants with stress levels and muscular/joint problems showing the most improvement.
